VOLTAGE
MANIFESTO

THE SITE

VOLTAGE is about whatever gives me a charge, including...

? Pop and electronic music, new and old, underground and mainstream, that has personality and crosses genre boundaries.

? Thoughts on music and politics, the rise and fall of scenes and movements, the greed and stupidity of the media corporations, the dying careers of old pop stars, etc.

? Announcements of selected music-related events, mostly in NYC, some of which I attend or am involved in.

? Occasional reviews of albums and shows.

? Notes on music technology, from keytars to iPods.

? Strange graffiti and flyers spotted in the streets and subways.

? Monthly MP3 downloads.

? Life in the city.

? Breakdancing robots.

THE AUTHOR

I grew up in Miami. Formative experiences included watching Doctor Who obsessively, wearing out the grooves on my LP of Switched-On Bach, roller-skating to "Planet Rock", and alarming high school authorities with subversive propaganda. Later I managed to acquire a degree in film. Now I live and work in New York City.

I own a turntable and some obscure European 12"s (and worked in a record store for a few minutes), but am too lazy and ignorant to be a true music nerd/hipster. I lack the vast knowledge of trivia, the competitive drive, the hyper-awareness of trends, and the stamina to go out three or four nights a week. But I know what I like.

My anti-social streak makes me a poor scenester, but maybe a passable blogger. Maud helps me stay in touch with reality.

Some people say that I bear a striking resemblance to retrofuturist revolutionary Maxx Klaxon. I have no idea what they're talking about.
