Maximus Clarke grew up Miami. He began experimenting with audio and video production in high school; he also published an underground newspaper, acted in local theater productions, and worked as a guide and educator at the Miami Museum of Science.

Max earned his BA from the University of Florida in Gainesville, majoring in English, with a concentration in film studies. While at UF, he wrote, directed, shot and edited an 80-minute video project, and built his first web site in 1994.

In 1997, he was accepted at the FSU Graduate Film Conservatory in Tallahassee, Florida. At the Conservatory, he directed four short films, and contributed creatively to more than a dozen others, while studying screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, production management, lighting, art direction, and sound mixing and design.

Max spent his final semester at FSU working closely with Richard Portman, the Academy-Award winning sound designer and mixer whose work has been featured in such films as The Godfather, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Star Wars, and The Deer Hunter.

After receiving his MFA, Max moved to New York City, where he helped to produce promotional spots and original programming for MTV and VH1. He also worked as a camera assistant on Comedy Central's Strangers With Candy, ABC's NYPD Blue, actor/director Campbell Scott's feature production of Hamlet, and various independent and student films.

In spring of 2000 he launched ArtificeEternity.com, and began pursuing professional web development work. In the summer of that year he spent time in San Francisco, working with the Sterling Group on an e-commerce project. Max later accepted a full-time position with Sterling in New York. While at Sterling, he worked on sites for Salomon Smith Barney, Sony, and others.

In July 2001, Max became a freelance web development and design consultant. Since that time he has worked for BMW, TD Waterhouse, BestCellars, TemPositions, Material, Aergo, and many other clients. For detailed information on Max's skills, experience, and portfolio, see the Résumé page.

He continues to work as a web developer and designer. He is also currently involved in the creation of music, web, and multimedia projects for electro recording artist Maxx Klaxon. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and their two cats.
