The words and wit (and a few photos) of writer Maud Newton are now on display at MaudNewton.com! Maud had been running a weblog on Blogspot for some time, but wanted something snazzier-looking and with more functionality. I designed and built her site with a bold but simple punk theme: cutout letters, spattered paint, and a red, black, and white color scheme.
The site went live last month. The centerpiece is the new weblog,
powered by b2. Other
site features include a bio, a links page, and an index of all of
Maud's writing available online.

New on SubIntSoc: The Situation Room. It's a place where the site editors will share some of the weird, amusing and confounding pieces of data they come across each day -- and where readers can add their own comments.
The
Situation Room is powered by the open-source weblog engine
b2, which in turn
uses PHP and MySQL technology. I helped set up SubIntSoc.net's
implementation of b2, and customized the templates for viewing and
commenting on posts. I also researched, located and hacked a special
"preview" script that shows the beginning of the most recent Situation
Room post on the homepage
of the site.

Today marks the debut of several major changes to the site: First, a partial redesign. The "mosaic" logo has been replaced with a motif based on film-leader countdown circles. I liked the mosaic (and put a lot of work into creating it), but it never quite meshed with the rest of the design. Also, link colors have been slightly revised. Second, sections and pages have been renamed and revised. The section formerly called Process is now Background. The film and video projects pages have been combined. Many page URLs and titles have been altered for greater simplicity. Finally, a new page has been added under the Project section, all about music.
The content of several more pages will be updated soon, to reflect my
recent creative efforts. I've got a lot of new photos to post, and
some web projects to add to the new
media page.

My photo of the Union Square Virgin Megastore bathroom in NYC has been added to The Mirror Project! You can see it here.
New photos will be coming soon... |
|||
|
I've added a Photos section to the site! I plan to showcase selected pictures from both my 35mm and digital photo collections.
A new page of photos will be started monthly, and added to throughout
the month -- so check back regularly for new glimpses of life in NYC, or
wherever my travels take me. |

SubIntSoc has just added another new feature... Fallout is an ongoing catalog of strange-but-true bits of technological, cultural and political data. The first couple items, appropriately, are actual government brochures from the '50s and '60s on protecting yourself from fallout.
The site (launched just over a year ago) has really come into its own
-- we're adding new content every week, and have even sold some t-shirts
(visit the
Agitprop/Hardware page to see what's available). |

The Book of Sand was mentioned
on Metafilter
the other day. Wow! The site has never had so many visitors...and most
have apparently solved the puzzle and signed the guestbook. |

After 6 months of planning, design and coding,
Miami Stories
is live! The first batch of true-life tales of Miami includes one by
yours truly, and the Miami Photos section contains some of my work as
well. |

The World Trade Center Image Collection Store is now open.
The shirts, mugs, mousepads, etc. all feature the same array of images
of the Twin Towers. All profits from these items will be
donated to the American Red Cross
and the Salvation Army. |
|||
|
I've created a page in tribute to the World Trade Center: http://ArtificEeternity.com/pr_photos_wtc.htm It features still images of the Twin Towers from the Time/Span time lapse video collection, as well as an image from the same perspective shot on the evening of September 11, 2001. I wanted to offer a memorial to the victims of this crime -- and to remind people of the beauty of the now-destroyed landmarks, before their destruction.
So far, the response to the tribute page has been overwhelming --
many people have discovered it randomly, or heard about it from
others. At some point, I may post to the page a selection of the
responses I've received from around the world. |

The "film frame" element has been DHTML-animated to slide
into view when each page loads. |
|||
|
I've created new page headers, and made the "Artifice/Eternity"
masthead on each page into a link to the homepage. I'm also
integrating my newly
updated web development resume into the
site. |

|
Information on recent film,
video and
new media projects has
been updated and expanded. Rotating graphics, showing selected
images from the films, have also been added. |
|||
|
The site design has been slightly revised: graphic and layout sizes have been reduced by about 10%, to accomodate users with older monitors. A new vertical "filmstrip" motif has been added; this graphic is contained in a separate DHTML layer, and will eventually be animated to slide into view when each page loads.
I've added a lot of DHTML to the site: cascading style sheets (CSS)
for all font management, and new customized scripts for rollovers,
browser and platform detection, CSS assignment, and more.
